I arrived at Borth and headed over to the golf course car park to take a
look. It looked ok but I decided to go to the estuary. The wind was
marginal and I'd be out on my own and besides that my insurance claim is
still going through for my 6.4m from the last outing so I didn't want to
trash my replacement, not yet anyway!
Over at the estuary the wind was making it through albeit a bit gusty but
when I arrived it was still F4-5.
I walked down to see what it was like in the main channel over towards
Aberdovey and the wind seemed cleaner. So I rigged up with my 6.4m and
headed down the channel towards the main channel. It took a while as the
channel was quite narrow as the tide was quite low. When I got to the main
channel the wind appeared to have dropped off so I just made the one reach
out and back as I didn't want to get starnded down wind in Aberdovey.
It took quite some time to get back over to the Ynyslas side of the estuary
but eventually I made it and changed to my 7.5m. Missed Al, he'd left a
note on the car saying he was going out on the front.
Now I was planing fully powered up with the 7.5m so I could start the gybe
practise that I'd been aiming to do. Todays aim was to make sure I moved my
back hand further down the boom and sheeted in to accelerate into the turn
as I banked the baord. It worked well and the carve was faster than I'd
managed before. However, this made me late flipping the rig! Some of my
attempts also turned into laydowns which also ended up with a dunking.
Good practise though, I really felt that I made some progress. Back to
re-reading the articles :-)
